Each spring, NAE members and engineering deans are invited to nominate faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching in U.S. engineering programs and have demonstrated innovation and excellence in one or more areas of engineering education to FOEE. Typical nominees are in the earlier stages of their academic careers, although faculty at all career stages are welcome.
Nominated individuals are then invited to apply to the symposium and complete a two-page description of their educational innovation, short descriptions of how they expect to contribute to FOEE as well as how they expect to benefit from FOEE, and a summary of professional development in teaching completed or teaching awards received.
Applicants are selected by the FOEE Advisory Committee based both on the innovativeness and potential impact of a proposed educational activity at their institution and beyond. Evidence of the nominee’s participation in faculty development relative to teaching and learning is also considered, as is documented success in the classroom.
